Definition of a Musical Instrument

Musical instruments are designed and constructed to produce sounds for the purpose of creating music. In fact, anything that produces a sound can in principle be considered a musical instrument, at least in the broadest definition of the term.

Organology is the term for the academic study of musical instruments.
